Daily challenge

One challenge a day, the same for everyone

The day's path draws its apples from the date: the same for everyone. Eat 10 apples without dying to complete the challenge.

  • The same apple path for everyone, until midnight.
  • Eating 10 apples completes the challenge; a collision ends the game.
  • The shared result is your apple count, never the path.
  • Completing a challenge, any of the four, extends your streak by one day.

The Free play / Daily challenge toggle sits at the very top of the board. The challenge never touches your free-play best scores, and free play stays unlimited.

Quick start

Five steps to your first game

  1. Start the game. Press “Start.” The snake moves on its own and never stops.
  2. Change direction. Arrow keys, WASD or ZQSD, or the pad below the grid. You can't reverse straight back on yourself.
  3. Eat the apples. Each apple makes the snake one segment longer and makes another apple appear.
  4. Avoid the walls. Touching an edge or your own body ends the game.
  5. Grow without trapping yourself. The longer the snake, the more you need to plan the next turn ahead.

Controls

One input for every way to play

Mouse and trackpad

The directional pad steers the snake. “Start” starts or restarts the game.

Touch screen

The directional pad fills a large square that is easy to hit with a thumb.

Keyboard

The arrow keys, or W A S D, or Z Q S D, change direction. You can't turn around in a single move.

Tips

Five things you only learn by playing

  • Give yourself room: hug the edges rather than cutting through the center as the snake grows longer.
  • Plan for the next apple before you've even eaten the first one.
  • A long snake traps itself; keep an escape path open behind the head.
  • You can't turn around in a single move: two right-angle turns beat an impossible reversal.
  • In the daily challenge, the apple path is the same for everyone: your route is what makes the difference.
